Noooooo! No, no, it can not be true. It is useless to try to convince you that what you did did not happen in the real world. The situation is very clear. With all my heart, you’ve been a real fool. Ok, let’s reflect. Calm and courage, do not cry on spilled milk. You’ve accidentally deleted all the photos you’ve taken with your digital camera, but it’s not a problem. Oh yes, why are you displeasing? The factual shots that you have mistakenly removed can all be recovered. How? Well, read this my tutorial dedicated, in fact, how to recover deleted photos  and you’ll find out immediately!

How do you say? What interests you – and even a lot, given the situation – but not being very practical in terms of computers and information technology (and you see, I would add!) Themes of not being able to succeed in the enterprise? Come on, do not be a coward! Apart from the fact that to recover your photos you will not have to do anything but use some special programs (yes, you got it right, there is no need for “macumbe” and magic formulas!) But then I do not really see what you worry if I’m here with you, ready and willing to give you all the information you need. Then? Did I convince you? Yes? Very well. So say do not waste any more time in chatter and go immediately to the action.

Ah, just a little clarification before entering into the heart of this tutorial: miracles can not be done, unfortunately. In other words, if a file has been deleted and the memory unit on which it was stored has been rewritten several times to store new information, it will be very difficult to do anything. In any case, as you say, temptation does not hurt. Enjoy the reading!

PhotoRec (Windows / Mac / Linux)

The first tool I want to invite you to use to recover deleted photos from your camera is PhotoRec . It is a software for Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems (but for these useful two it can only be used from the command line). It is free and is of an open source nature and, as the name implies, allows you to recover images from any storage device connected to the computer: memory card, pendrive, hard disk etc. To illustrate its use I chose to use the Windows version. So let’s see how it works, exactly.

First of all connected to the Photo Recover website and click on the number under the heading Latest stable version on the top right. On the web page that opens, click the link for the version of Windows you are using in the Stable version section and wait for the program to start and finish.

At the end of the download, extract the archive obtained in any position of the computer and start the executable qphotorec_win.exe that was present in it. In the window that you will see later on the desktop, click on the Yes button and use the drop-down menu Select a media from which to perform the recovery operation to select the drive on which are the photos you’ve deleted by mistake.

Now, select the primary partition of the device, check the  FAT / NTFS / HFS + / ReiferFS and Free entries and select the file forks to find cn the program by clicking on the File  Formats button  . Then click on the OK button  to save the changes made to the program settings.

Finally, click on the Browse button  at the bottom right to choose the folder in which to save the recovered photos and then click on  Search in order to start the recovery of the deleted images. When the process is completed, the images that could be recovered will be automatically saved in the previously chosen folder.

RePicvid Free Photo Recovery (Windows / Mac)

Another great resource to which you can turn to recover deleted photos is  Re Pic vid Free Photo Recovery . It is a free program and for Windows and MacOS operating systems that after a simple scan is able to “exhume” the shots that were removed incorrectly. It is also equipped with a very pleasant user interface and its operation is highly intuitive. Possibly also available in a paid variant with additional features.

To use it, first connect to the website of the program and then click on the button corresponding to the operating system you are using to download the appropriate version. When the download is complete, if you are using Windows, start the executable file just obtained, click on Yes / Run and accept the terms of use of the program spitting the appropriate item then click on Next four times in a row, presses on Install and to conclude click on Finish .

If you are using a Mac, open the downloaded .pkg file and follow the simple installation wizard that is proposed on screen by clicking Continue and typing, when prompted, the password for your user account on macOS.

When installation is complete, start the program (if it has not started on its own) and close the warning you see appearing on the possibility to switch to the paid version of the same after which click on Photo / Graphic , select the unit to be analyzed and then click on the Scan button .

If you want to limit the scan to specific file formats only, before starting the procedure click on the Advanced Settings button below and select the ones you are interested in. Then click on OK to confirm your choice.

Once the analysis has been completed, select the reference potion from the left-hand sidebar and in the right part of the program window you will find all the detected photos that can be retrieved. Pigiandoci above you can also view a preview. If you want to recover all of them click on the Recover button which is at the bottom right and indicates the location on your computer where you want to save, otherwise you first have to deselect those that do not interest you.

DMDE (Windows / Linux)

DMDE is another resource belonging to the category that I strongly suggest you use to try to recover deleted photos from your camera (but not only). It is for Windows (the version on which I will focus in this section) and Linux (but only from the command line), it’s free (but it is also available in a variant to pay that allows you to intervene on more types of files) and not requires installation. It can also act on any type of drive, be it an external drive or a specially formatted drive. Maybe it’s a little less practical to use than the resources already seen but has great potential and it’s worth trying.

To use it, connect to the program’s website and click on the Download DMDE for Windows button at the top. To download the completed software, open the ZIP file obtained and extract the contents in any position and then open the executable present inside.

From the window that you will then see appear on the desktop, select Italian (Italian) and then click OK to set the use of Italian for DMDE and then accept the terms of use of the software by ticking the appropriate box and click the Accept button .

Now, select the unit you want to search on and click on the OK button, then press the Scan complete button at the bottom and then click Scan Now . Once the scanning process is complete, select the reference volume from the left, click on the Menu button , choose Open volume from the menu that appears and click OK .

Then browse the various positions of the chosen unit and when you find the photos you had deleted by mistake and you want to recover select them by spitting the box, click on the item Tools that is in the upper left part of the program window, choose Return … and press on OK . The recovered files will be saved in what was their original potion.

If then doing as I have just indicated you cannot find the files that interest you, help by clicking on the Tools menu , choosing Search in the found (to the name) and setting specific search filters based on what are your needs.

Recuva (Windows)

Recuva is another valuable software for data recovery in general (and therefore also photos) usable at no cost on Windows oprative systems. It is very simple to use, has a nice interface and is also very effective. In short, what are you waiting for?

To download it to your computer, connect to its Internet site  and click on the Download Free Version button first , then on the Free Download button , under . and finally presses the button Download latest version on the new page that has opened.

Then open the executable file obtained, select Language from the drop-down menu in the upper right part of the window appeared on the screen and click on the Install button and then presses on Run Recuva  to start the software.

Now, to locate and then recover deleted photos, presses the Forward button that is in the main window of the program, check the box next to the item  Images and click on  Next again . Then select the device from which to retrieve the photos and press first on Next and then on Start .

Once the scan is complete, find the items to be recovered, select them and press on  Recover to export them to a folder of your choice. Tini present that the elements marked with the  red circle are those practically impossible to recover as badly damaged.

Note:  If Recuva can not find your photos, try to scan again by restarting the program and checking the box next to  Enable deep scan  before clicking Start to perform an analysis of the reference unit again. more accurate.

App to recover deleted photos

The photos that you deleted by mistake were not taken with the digital camera but with the smartphone or tablet? No problem, I can help you in this too. If this is the case, I am happy to announce that using some specific applications you can be able to recover deleted photos even on your mobile devices. Below you will find those that in my opinion are some of the best in the category.

Ah, I almost forgot: the apps you find below are all for Android. Also for the other operating systems, useful applications are available for the recovery of the accidentally removed photos, but those that act in a manner similar to the above programs are available only for the mobile platform of the “green robot”.

Undeleter Recover Files & Data – Another photo recovery app (and not only) able to scan deleted items using the cache. Requires root permissions otherwise it will not work. You download for free.

Restore Image (Super Easy) – Simple but effective application to recover deleted images on the device on the fly. It analyzes the memory and allows you to retrieve the photos in a pair of taps. In short, the name is a promise. Free.
